Will Bake for Food - November 12

On November 12th at 11am at University Heights Center, Seattle food bloggers will be baking up their favorite tasty treats with proceeds benefiting The Emergency Feeding Program.

Join #WillBakeforFood - Bring your sweet tooth, along with non-perishable food items or a monetary donation. For a list of the items the Emergency Feeding Program needs most, click here (PDF).

When: Saturday, November 12th, 2011
11am-2pm (or until they run out! Rumor has it they’ve run out after 90 minutes in previous years so get there early)

Where: University Heights Center
5031 University Way NE
Seattle, WA 98105

Why: Because everyone needs healthy, nutritious food. The Emergency Feeding Program’s mission is to provide an emergency response to the nutritional needs of people in crisis hunger situations throughout Seattle and King County.

Generally, I love to sleep in and stay in on Saturday mornings, but the awesome group of bloggers who will be there is motivation enough, not to mention that they’re all working together to support an incredibly important cause.

Win Tickets to 20Something Wine

1_b

My favorite wine event of the YEAR is back on November 19th: 20something Wine at Fremont Studios!

Tickets are on sale now, and here’s a chance for you to win one ($50 value).

As you can see from the vast wine list of Washington wines that will be poured, this wine event is all about approachable wines (most are around $20, some in the $10-$15 range).  What I love about this is we taste wines all night that we later will realistically purchase for wines at home or to bring to a house party or dinner party at a friends.
Some wines I’m especially excited to sip: 14 Hands, Castillo de Feliciana, Dusted Valley, Finnriver Farm & Cidery, L’Ecole No. 41, and OS Winery.  The joy of this event is every year I’m introduced to new winers I normally wouldn’t have known about.

Instead of booth after booth, 20something invites wine makers to walk around the party and share their vino with mingling guests. You get to connect directly with wine makers and sommeliers while sharing the experience with friends, rather than waiting in line to taste and then move on to the next booth.
While the DJ spins, you also get a chance to try some amazing bites from trendy restaurants

Check out the 2010 20something Flickr page here.
CONTEST!  I’ll pick two winners to win 1 ticket each to 20something.
You can enter both ways:

1) Post a comment on this blog (be sure to include your email address or way to contact you if you win) to enter to win.
2) Follow @keridwyn & @20somethingwine on twitter & tweet “I want to win the #20winecontest @keridwyn @20somethingwine
Entries must be posted by 11:59pm Pacific Time Monday October 31.

FUBAR - Uber Rides 50% off 10/24 - 10/27!

Uber is a fabulous car service that came to Seattle just a few months ago.  I love them: You pull up the app on your phone (you can also text, I hear) and before you request the car it will tell you how far away your driver is! With the magic of GPS, you can watch your car come your way on the app’s map and then you get a text when it’s near and has arrived. The drivers are so professional, and you arrive at your destination in town car style!  Plus, they bill your credit card directly, including gratuity, so you don’t have to hand over cash or wait while they swipe your card.  It’s a few bucks more than a cab, but well worth it for the ease and convenience.
Today, Uber announced that if you put the promo code FUBAR into your app before calling your car, you will save 50% on your trip between 6AM Monday, October 24th and 8PM Thursday, October 27th.

For those who like to check in on Foursquare, look up “In an Uber” next time you’re riding with them!

Taste The Season at Wing Luke Asian Museum

11+ of Seattle’s Trendiest & Tastiest restaurants will all come together for one evening to serve their favorite Comfort Food Picks!  This is going to be a fun night of cocktails, wine, sweet treats and indulgent bites from some of Seattle’s best restaurants.
1aa

I’m most excited to check out Staple & Fancy’s gnocchi, Bastille’s mussels with hard cider and ginger (sounds like a fantastic combo for fall!), Foodz Catering’s Brie & Truffle Mac n Cheese.

Thanks to all the restaurants involved!

Not only is this going to be a delicious event, there’s also art involved: BONUS! Taste The Season is held at Wing Luke Asian Museum, so we’ll be able to check out their exhibits during the event. Their newest exhibit, From Fields to Family: Asian Pacific Americans and Food will compliment this event nicely, as it investigates the cultural traditions and cooking techniques that have changed with time and generations.  It’s been years since I’ve visited this museum, so I’m so glad to have such a wonderful excuse to go back.

Don’t Miss “The Jacket” - Nanda plays Broadway Performance Hall through Oct 23

Having seen Nanda perform shorts at The Moisture Festival, I was already excited about this show before the curtain went up last weekend on opening night.

I was expecting a fun, lighthearted night of performance, but was truly blown away by this show.

They’re not perfect, but they’re awesome.  These talented guys make you transport back to the days of playing pretend as a kid.  What happens on stage is as if the brain of an active 8 year old boy, in love with martial arts movies, comes to life. Their “kung faux” fighting is electrifyed as they are choreographed to match their sound effects as they swing near each other and throw themselves back in comic falls. The audience feels like a kid again, remembering the importance of play and imagination.

Tomoki Sage brings his  talents to the stage in a delivery that will remind audiences of vaudvillian style clowning. Groucho Marx would be pleased. His facial expressions and dedication to character in the moment are filled with joy and comedic skill. Joined by co-stars Misha Fradin, Chen Pollina and Kiyota Sage, this handsome bunch will have you laughing one moment and dropping your jaw the next, as they make acrobatic moves look easy as pie.

The video production that runs behind them and helps carry the story between costume changes is well produced and adds to the fun of the production.

The Jacket runs about an hour with no intermission and will leave you smiling all week long.  It’s rare I see a show that I want ALL of my friends to see, but this is one that appeals to a huge audience. The crowd jumped to its feet in standing ovation at the end of the show. Don’t miss the creative joy that is NANDA.
